97,000 dollars to UWI Haitian Student Fund for Haitian students in Trinidad

Corporate donors yesterday handed over more than US$97,000 or about TT$621,000 to the UWI Haitian Student Fund.

However, about US$470,000 or TT$3 million more is still required to bring and support 70 Haitian students to the St Augustine campus of the University of the West Indies.

Of the total sum of US$1.3 million for the project (students’ airfares, living expenses and study materials) the UWI St Augustine Campus has already decided to contribute over US$730,000 to the venture, UWI St Augustine Campus Principal Professor Clement Sankat said at the handing over of the donations which took place at the Office of the Central Bank in Port of Spain.
