Christine’s Hope for Kids Foundation Charity Golf Tournament, The loss of their daughter Christine Gianacaci still weighs heavily on Jean and John Gianacaci of Hopewell. The Gianacacis have started Christine’s Hope for Kids Foundation, which already has gifted $45,000 to many organizations in the area, and on Sept. 13 at John Gianacaci’s home course, the Springdale Golf Club, a tournament will be held in the hope of raising lots more money.
All signs are that the golf event will be a big financial success, because the response has been so great that there are now two shotgun tee times. The original goal of 100 golfers has been surpassed to the point where the afternoon round has been completely filled. Openings remain for the morning round, with information available by calling (609) 915-9168 or by logging onto christineshope.org.
“This is not something you want to do, but we need to do,” John Gianacaci said of the foundation and the golf event. “We feel like she is guiding us. She’s smiling down on us. It’s been amazing.”
“The goal is to gather supportive people at a golf event,” he said of the tournament which has Hopewell Valley Community Bank as its major sponsor. “And we will continue to tell our story. Before continuing, Gianacaci paused and reflected. “It’s for our daughter,” he said, “so it has to be perfect.”
Christine Gianacaci, 22, a junior at Lynn University in Florida, was on a food delivery mission in Haiti when the earthquake ripped through that country.
Gianacaci was in Port-au-Prince, near the quake’s epicenter, as part of the school’s Journey of Hope, Food for the Poor service trip.
She was staying at the Hotel Montana, which was destroyed. Her body was recovered on Feb. 10.
