Jean-Bertrand Aristide – return to Haiti or not

By Nick J - Tue Jul 20, 6:08 am

The January 12, 2010 earthquake that wiped out more than a 200,000 Haitian citizens and foreigners opened Haiti to the rest of the world and beyond. It has shown how weak Haiti’s government is and its infrastructure’s barely clinging to existence. But it also inflamed renewed calls for the return of for president in exile Jean-Bertrand Aristide. As most people know, Aristide was removed from the presidency after claims of election fraud arise prior to completing he’s second term by a coup organized by the United States and the French.

To many Haitians living in Haiti, Aristide was a man who promoted literacy, build new schools, and help the poorest of the poor in Haiti. However, others say that he’s a drug dealer, a killer though armed gangs, and a dictator.

Its been a little more than six months since the earthquake and there’s very little progress to rebuild primarily caused by government problems, bureaucracy, and lack of coordination. Should former president Jean-Bertrand Aristide be returned to power?
