Haitian President René Préval has called yesterday the population affected by the earthquake of January 12 to show solidarity, “patience” and “discipline” to face delays in distributing food and tents.

Highly criticized by the victims who feel that the Haitian government does not help them, said he understood the “frustration” of its citizens facing delays distributions. “The situation was already difficult before the earthquake, it became even more difficult.

Recalling that a million Haitians were left homeless since the quake and 200,000 tents were needed for housing, he said that ” however, help arrived and as and extent we installed people in shelters. He called for “solidarity in peace (…) not to complicate an already tense situation, already difficult for the people.”

Mr. President, It is easy for you to call for patience when you have a roof over your head and a copious dinner already. What about the sons and daughters of Jean-Jacques Dessalines that are still without food and shelter?
