TPS granted to illegal Haitians living in the U.S

“The Obama administration extended a special immigration status on Friday to Haitians living illegally in the United States, protecting them from deportation for 18 months and allowing them to work here.” – The New York Times

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano estimated that there are 100,000 to 200,000 Haitian nationals currently in the country illegally. – ABC News

Haiti now joins El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and the Sudan on the list of countries whose citizens have temporary protected status in the U.S.
